It hasn’t taken long for Josh Howard to transition from an All-Star player to a successful head coach. The Winston-Salem native is in his third year as head coach of Piedmont International University, and has quickly helped the program reach new heights.
After being hired in the summer of 2016, Howard led the Bruins to a 14-10 season. The team was ranked as high as 7th in Division II and ended the season in 14th. 2017’s season saw the same record at 14-10, but the team enjoyed a huge improvement on the defensive side of the ball, ranking 5th in the division in overall defense. Howard was also able to bring the best out of star player Nash Carter, who finished the season as the second leading scorer in the nation. He was named Player of the Year and won All-Conference honors.
