Food Program in Dallas, TX

In addition to all of the great things The Josh Howard Foundation does in North Carolina we also have Dallas based Afterschool (Child and Adult Care Food program/CACFP) and Summer Feeding (Sumer Food Service Program/SFSP) programs which are certified through the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). The programs allow the foundation to be active in the community on a daily. Feeding as many as 250 plus kids daily. We strive to create a stable environment for every participant helping with homework during the school year and providing recreational activities, while teaching the importance of healthy meals. The goal of the program is to provide quality meals and assistance to those in poverty stricken communities; while fighting against childhood food insecurity in the DFW Metropolitan area.

Mel Jackson is the Executive Director and is responsible for the daily operations of the Dallas based programs. On a daily, she displays her knowledge and business expertise through her management skills associated with the program.  She is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) & Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) programs approved thorough the Texas Department of Agriculture. Her dedication to the and detailed attention to the quality of the program has and continues to open doors for the foundation as a whole. She has also recently become a member of the CACFP Workforce Input Group, and Specific Prior Written Approval Team for the Texas Department of Agriculture (SPWA TDA) Subcommittee.  In addition to those groups she was recently awarded a Leadership role with the North Texas Summer and Supper Council affiliated with the Dallas Region of the United way. Combined efforts from The Josh Howard Foundation, Ms. Jackson and our partners help together we can improve the quality of meals for children and teens in North Texas.
